Mao Feng
This tea is a relatively young tea variety, existing in this form only since 1875. Its intense aroma regularly places this tea on the unofficial list of the top ten tea varieties from China, the home of tea for 5000 years. Another variety of Mao Feng, known as the ‘Criss Cross’ variant, comes from Zhejiang near the Nine Dragon Mountain (Jiu Long Shan) and thrives at altitudes between 500 and 600 metres.
Cultivation
This Organic Mao Feng grows in the West Hunan Wuling Mountains of China at an altitude of 800 metres. The plants benefit from mineral-rich soils and a temperate climate. The mineral-rich soils and high altitude give this Meo Feng tea its crisp and sweet aroma. The leaves are hand-picked in mid-April just around the Qing Ming season and carefully processed to ensure the highest quality. Traditional processing includes gentle pan roasting of the leaves, which gives the tea its characteristic nutty aftertaste.
