Sierra Nevada Cheese Company strives to create the best tasting dairy products by keeping true to our own philosophy: A clean ingredient list, coupled with traditional manufacturing methods. We use only natural, wholesome ingredients and milk and cream from local Northern California producers.
Our cheese making roots go all the way back to our ancestors in Switzerland who made a living producing cheese in the 1700’s. After a visit to Lionza, a small village in Switzerland, John Fiscalini decided to return that time-honored family tradition of making handcrafted farmstead cheese to his dairy farm in California.
Since 1931, Vella Cheese has been a companion to the finest foods in the world. As an ingredient, sprinkled on top, or served alongside, the full fresh flavor and smooth creamy texture of Vella Cheese is guaranteed to satisfy. And we still make our cheeses by hand in the founding building just a few blocks off the historic plaza in Sonoma, California.
Cheese is synonymous with Europe. Parmesan and Mozzarella from Italy, Gouda from the Netherlands, Danish Blue from Denmark, Brie and Camembert from France, Feta from Greece; the list goes on. In fact, European countries dominate both the world’s production and consumption of this popular food.
